The World Diabetes Foundation (WDF) and FHADIMAC collaborated together in the efforts to increase access to diabetes care for people living in areas most severely affected by the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. ROCHE and Diabetes Hands Foundation provided their financial support in order to complete the project.
A mobile clinic was established to increase access to prevention and care for diabetes and its complications. A van was fully equipped to provide education and diabetes care as well as screening for diabetes and complications such as diabetic foot and retinopathy. In addition, the van helps to raise awareness about diabetes and hypertension among the general population. People with severe complications receive counseling and a referral to the nearest clinic affiliated with FHADIMAC. The van does outreach activities in remote areas.
