Diabetes Education
Educating patients about their illness is the key to successful management of a person with diabetes. At FHADIMAC, a five-day program has been offered weekly for more than 30 years.
The sessions focus on explaining the key concepts of diabetes, hypertension and the other cardiovascular diseases including their chronicity and thus the need for lifelong treatment, and understanding their interactions with the social context, which is essential to combat the disease.
The sessions help explain the management of diet and physical activity, and alert on the risk of complications. It should be thorough and permanent so that the different stages of treatment are understood and applied effectively.
In summary, education sessions are a valuable tool in assisting the day-to-day management of diabetes, hypertension and the other cardiovascular diseases as well as acting as an emotional and social support space.
