FHADIMAC- Jeremie: Centre Dr. René Charles
CHILDREN WITH DIABETES PROGRAM
A special department created in June 2010 for children with Type 1 Diabetes:
- Specialized clinics
- Adapted treatment
- Psychological group support for children and their parents
This program is supported by Life For A Child, which provides free insulin, glucometers and strips to the patients.
In 2012, FHADIMAC hosted their first annual "Camp de l’Amitié" (Diabetes Youth Camp) for youngsters aged 3-20 years old who had Type 1 diabetes. The camp’s mission is to educate these youth on the importance of proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, and managing their chronic condition. The camp also allows them to share experiences and develop friendships amongst their peers. For many of them, this is the only opportunity for them to feel accepted by others and not feel alone.
YOUNG LEADERS WITH DIABETES
In 2014, FHADIMAC joined forces with AYUDA (American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad) with the objective of empowering youth leaders in Haiti to be agents of social change. AYUDA continues to provide FHADIMAC with trained volunteers that mentor and guide our youth leaders in the success of the Diabetes Youth Camp.

MEDICAL TRAINING
FHADIMAC is the only foundation in Haiti capable of providing adequate training to medical professionals and their affiliated centers on diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Participating institutions include Université Notre Dame, Université de Quiskeya, Université Lumière, Université Royale d’Haïti and Université d’État Haïti.
The organization is also approached daily by NGOs to assist in developing and implementing programs on diabetes management and cardiovascular disease. Partners In Health (PIH) partnered with FHADIMAC to reach PIH’s goal of training 600 health professionals over three years. In January 2015, Dr. Nancy Charles Larco, FHADIMAC’s Executive Director, began leading a series of medical training conferences on diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This training program is offered to medical professionals and their affiliated centers at the University Hospital of Mirebalais, Haiti. FHADIMAC has provided training to hundreds of medical professionals and continues to expand this program.
Currently, the Ministry of Public Health (MSPP) has signed an MOU with FHADIMAC where it is mentioned assistance to launch a National Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Plan that will include being the reference center to all training and treatment of diabetic care.
EVENTS:
FHADIMAC has also launched its new program, "Zoom sur le Diabète." This program was addressed to medical personnel to improve their knowledge in managing Diabetes in patients leaving Haiti.
